Cerebra Receives Eurostar Funding

Winnipeg, MB – Cerebra Medical Ltd., in partnership with IDUN Technologies AG and Pilotfish Nederland BV, is pleased to announce Eurostars funding supporting the development of breakthrough sleep improvement technology. Combining Cerebra’s proprietary Odds Ratio Product (ORP) sleep depth, IDUN’s leading in-ear brain interface technology, and Pilotfish’s design expertise, the project “Personalised Sleep Recovery Platform” creates a platform for consumers to truly understand and improve their sleep on an individual level.
The project is a first as IDUN in-ear technology makes direct, lab quality analysis of sleep comfortable and broadly accessible. Cerebra’s patented ORP technology leverages this information, moving beyond conventional scoring methods to dig deeper into brain activity during sleep. The resulting consumer application analyzes this uniquely high-quality sleep data to provide personalized and adaptive feedback on improving sleep quality.

“The current state of sleep trackers has a lot left to be desired”, says Dr. Amy Bender, Director of Clinical Sleep Science at Cerebra and Principal Investigator on the project. “By collaborating with IDUN and Pilotfish on this project, we can create an overall product that still measures sleep accurately with EEG but is comfortable and easy to use. The most exciting part will be to use ORP to detect which lifestyle factors make a difference on your sleep quality and use behavior change strategies and gamification to create a meaningful sleep improvement platform that will actually provide insights to help you sleep and perform better.”

“Here we have excellent software and technology that has a huge potential to provide better sleep and lives for many people with sleep disorders. We are looking forward to tackling our part: the enormous design challenge to create a device that is comfortable to wear overnight, and that disappears from the mind to let the user have sweet dreams,” says Marc Nagel, Managing Director of Pilotfish.

“The future of sleep is an exciting place to make a positive impact on society”, says Mark Melnykowycz, Lead Product Designer at IDUN Technologies AG. “The ability to bring our brain-computer interface technology int

o hearables opens up new ways for people to understand their sleep journey and make lifestyle changes to improve it.”
Insufficient sleep is a global health epidemic that is unrecognized with high economic costs. Yet despite €432bn spent in the global sleep economy in 2019, the problem continues to get worse as the pandemic drove increased rates of insomnia by 27%. What is missing is access to true sleep measurement through high-quality electroencephalogram (EEG) which to date, has only been possible in a sleep lab. By scaling access to Odds Ratio Product (ORP), a validated measure of sleep quality through in-ear EEG, the PSRP will fundamentally change the trajectory of sleep issues globally.

Company Information
Cerebra is a Canadian technology company transforming the future of sleep diagnosis and therapy. Cerebra unites innovators and researchers with the common goal and passion of putting “sleep” back into sleep medicine. The Cerebra Sleep System uses the patented algorithm, Odds Ratio Product (ORP), that micro-analyses the Electroencephalogram (EEG) signal providing a continuous measure of sleep depth, moving beyond conventional scoring methods to dig deeper into brain activity.

IDUN Technologies AG is a Swiss neurotechnology start-up specializing in measuring and analyzing brain activity from the ear (in-ear EEG) utilizing a Hearables form factor. IDUN’s mission is to make brain-related information accessible to enterprises and end-users by a combination of hardware design, data collection, algorithms and personalization, thus creating an empathic digital world. Our product is a companion device and analytics platform that enables meaningful behavioral changes and neuromodulation for better sleep and can be used in other use cases such as hearing.

Pilotfish is an innovation and realization agency and go-to partner for integrated design, development and manufacturing services. Pilotfish transforms complex technologies into meaningful user experiences, bridging the gap between technology and people to bring products to the market.
